Final Fantasy Tactics is one of those games you come back to over and over again. With an always amazing story behind the Final Fantasy series, a battle system that took some hints from D&D, and an immense amount of customization of party members and arrangements- it's sure to lend to a fun time.
The story alone makes this movie worth playing. It takes a twisted version of dark and corrupt power of 17th century Catholicism, mashes it together with a feudalistic kight-in-shining-armor society, throws in some astrology, and then adds the ever loved Final Fantasy magics for taste. Double crosses and backstabs make up some surprising moments in the story, entrancing the player like a good novel.
Between all this backstabbing and zodiacal undertones, lies the battle system. If all that was in this game was this battle system, it would still be cherished. Players are scattered across a large grid of squares, allowing for movement based on the distance of each of these squares. For anyone who's ever played a table-top RPG like D&D, this will feel right at home; for those who haven't - well they will soon learn why D&D is one of the best selling games of all time. The almost infinite combinations of job classes, skills, and magic allows for endless fun and an enormous replay value of the battles. No two battles feel the same. The only thing it really misses is a two player mode for the battles, but really that'd just be extra spice on the pie, and wouldn't really fit with the feel of the game.
All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good strategic battle, an amazing storyline, and clever customization.
P.S. - If you do play it, make sure you get a Calculator job class. They're worth it for just the amazement of the genius behind whoever thought of it.
Sadly, no it was never released for the PC. However, in recent years, as my playstation broke quite a while back, I've taken to simply running the game through an emulator on the PC. Works great.
